Frequently Asked Questions

Session length and frequency?

Individual sessions are between 45 - 55 minutes. The recommendation is for weekly sessions, at least in the beginning. However, I do offer a variety of ways to fit schedules and budgets.

How does insurance work?

I am In Network with: (through Alma ONLY, Individuals)

  • Aetna (most but not all plans)

  • Optum (which includes UnitedHealthcare, United Oxford, Oscar)

I also accept Lyra Insurance and Modern Health which are both mental health platforms that partner with major companies. Please check with your company’s HR department for more information.

To access your in network benefits or eligibility, please connect with me on Alma. You can schedule a 15 free consult to make sure we are a good fit.

I am an out of network provider with all other major insurance companies.

If you are using out of network benefits, at the end of each session, you will receive a Super Bill (or receipt) for the session which contains all the relevant information (tax ID#, license#, NPI#) so that you can remit directly to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

  • Since every insurance company is different, your reimbursement will vary as well depending on your coverage. I am happy to call your insurance company on your behalf to obtain your insurance benefits as this can be complicated at times to navigate.

  • When you submit your Super Bill to your insurance company, they may reimburse you for a portion of our counseling fees, depending on the mental health coverage of your insurance plan.

How I can help you understand your insurance?

A. I can call your insurance company prior to your first session and find out all the information we can (such as your out of network deductible, reimbursement rate, and insurance policy)

B. If you have out of network benefits you will need to satisfy your deductible before your coverage starts.

C. We will work with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the out-of-pocket costs and frequency of session and be your partner in all the finances.

What are your rates? (out of network for all other insurance)

Individual therapy: $225.00 for a 55 minute session

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment in order to avoid being charged for the missed session. Late cancellation fee is $150.00.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free 15 minute video consultation to answer any questions and determine whether the therapeutic relationship is a good fit. Consultation and completion of intake paperwork is required prior to scheduling a full session.

To schedule a consultation, reach out using our contact form or email us directly at hello@kristindavin.com

At this time, I only offer teletherapy sessions. I am licensed in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Connecticut

Due to state licensure requirements, you must be located within the states of New York, New Jersey, Florida , or Connecticut when attending Teletherapy.

How do I pay for sessions?

You are required to pay for each session at the time of service. I accept Amex, Visa, Mastercard, HSA/FSA cards, or Venmo. This is for out of network services only and coaching. I bill directly for Alma, Lyra, and Modern Health clients.

How can I make this affordable?

My session rates are industry standard and are based on my location and other various factors. However, it’s important make your sessions affordable and give you a space that is comfortable, safe, and welcoming. At times, I may offer a reduced fee (with some limited availability).

What is my right to a good faith estimate?

Beginning January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers, including private pay mental health facilities, are required to provide a Good Faith Estimate document to patients who do not have insurance or opt to not use their insurance (self-pay). Although therapy costs and typical frequency are listed on this page, you also have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate document from your provider during your initial consultation or at any time during the course of your treatment. This document will provide an estimate of therapy costs for up to 12 months.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate you may dispute those charges with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee to initiate a dispute process. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.

If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.
